About Us

Fordham Faculty United, the union of non-tenured/non-tenure-track faculty at Fordham University, includes 650+ members in its bargaining unit (BU) — see Who’s Covered. Our union is a chapter of SEIU Local 200United, based in Syracuse, New York, which has around 15,000 members from many different trades, including higher ed. When FFU ratified our first union contract (CBA) in 2018, FFU became our Local’s first higher-ed faculty chapter in NYC. Our parent union, SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, is based in Washington, DC, and has more than two million members, making it one of the largest labor unions in the US. Thanks to the hard work of FFU members, our union has transformed our working conditions, making Fordham and the university community stronger. Here’s what a fellow FFU faculty member had to say after we ratified our first CBA in 2018:

Ashar Foley, a Fordham University Lecturer in Communication and Media Studies and member of the union negotiating committee, said, “I’m so happy to have helped bring this change in our working conditions. Not only does it benefit us and our students, but it also makes a strong case for unionization to faculty at other Jesuit institutions, and to all other institutions of higher learning in the New York City area. By unionizing, we play our part in the Jesuit University mission of alleviating poverty, promoting justice, and protecting human rights.”

Our first CBA, in 2018, represented some of the largest gains for a first contract in higher ed in the history of SEIU. Below are highlights from that first contract. Click here for highlights from our most recent CBA.
